15 Artistes That Disappointed Us In 2015

Chidinma Shares Black & White Selfie
The year is more or less over now and the entertainment industry players are looking forward to the busy schedule that comes with the festive period. While they look forward to those exciting times, some of them will be doing a yearly review to see if things went as they planned last year December or this year January.
We on our own part had high or exciting expectations for some of our favorite artistes thereby anticipating a great 2015 from them. Some of the acts we expected great things from surpassed our expectation, some met it while the others didn’t do enough. 36NG takes a look at the artistes that didn’t impress us as we would have loved this term.

Chidinma

With Tiwa Savage on a mandatory maternity leave after announcing she is pregnant on January 1st, 2015, we had high hopes that Chidinma will be the biggest winner from her absence.
The 24 year old music sensation instead didn’t do enough to become the force we expected her to be after winning the Project Fame more than half a decade ago.
Chidinma has dropped only one single in 2015, that says a lot about her intentions.
Niyola

Niyola

Another diva we expected greatness from after all, her so called nemesis is not going to be actively involved.
Niyola proved a rich record label and management is not enough to shoot up echelons in Nigerian music business.
Niyola had a decent 2014 but has regressed a yard or two this term. She didn’t get enough shows or make enough head spin but that comes as no surprise.
Last Bus Stop is the only significant release she put out this year, when you compare that to Seyi Shay, who has released more than 5, you will see that she has been disappointing.
Naeto C

Naeto C

In January we didn’t have high hopes from Naeto C after it appeared he had joined eLDee in retirement but the rapper went on to release an album, Day 1 after back to back singles… Our head spinned!
We looked forward to Naeto C punching weights with the likes of Olamide in the rap warfront. Naeto C went ahead to release another album, Festival 2 months after making 2 albums in 2 months.
The two album is now widely known for not having a hit single. His Flavour assisted effort Helele is not bad, but big things are expected from big people.
Jaywon

Jaywon

Jaywon is one of the most talented bunch of Nigerian musicians today but it’s been another sub-par year from him since 2013.
The singer finally departed from Kennis Music early 2015 and we thought that will lead to a chart-bursting year but unfortunately the only thing we remember Jaywon doing this year is releasing Back To Sender featuring Vector, another song that could do better.
In 2016, we’d learn not to expect too much from this man

Whatever happened to the magic touch that created Sean Tizzle’s classic debut album The Journey.
Unlike others on this list, Sean Tizzle put in work, released enough singles and video but something was just missing.
MTN had to drop him from their long list of endorsed artiste which says a lot about his 2015.

Blackmagic

This year also marks the end of our big expecation from Blackmagic.
It’s a cold world out there for artistes that single alternate sound and Blackmagic is a connoisseur in that genre.
Blackmagic simply didn’t do enough this year. Luckily for him, there’s a chance to retry in 2016.

Waje Stuns In Black Dress (Photo)

Waje

Waje spent more time in the gym than in the booth this year and unfortunately for her, her slimmer body is not enough to upstage Tiwa Savage or compete with Yemi Alade in the music business.
Waje did try her best though, she released Coco Baby looking to break boundaries and featured Diamond Platnumz and also did another project with Patoranking but were they good enough?
Like Blackmagic, Waje has 2016 but things will be harder then, we presume.
May D

May D

After agitating for an exit from Square Records, many expected May D to be the next Wande Coal but he is no where near him.
May D’s problem is not the quality of his music. Those who follow him closely know May D drops bangers but what about the fans at-large?
The biggest headline May D made this year is a negative one. His babymama accused him of battery and abuse. Not what we expect.
tribal-brymo2

Brymo

What now for Brymo?
The quality of his music is arguably the best in the country, but what about his marketability and monetization channels?
Brymo is no Asa, who has an international acceptance and pretense, no thanks to her French background, hence he needs a recording deal, an international record deal to be precise,
We still reckon with Brymo and 2016 might just be the year he scores it big, again.
Jesse Jagz Abaga

Jesse Jagz

Welcome Home Jesse Jagz! What Chocolate City told us when they resigned the Jos born rapper, our Adrenaline level rose to a new level and slowly we agitated for new sounds from Jago then the CBN album came, a disappointing album to say the least.
Jesse Jagz hasn’t done anything to write home about since rejoing C-City. For now, we preferred when he was an Indie artiste,
Dammy-Krane-Dread

Dammy Krane

After (finally) dropping his debut studio album last year we thought these are exciting times for Dammy Krane.
The youngster has never really lived up to his unbelievably high potential. There is something missing right now in Dammy Krane’s music. Granted he has hits here and there, but that is not enough for a man of Dammy Krane’s potential.
Next year is another year for Dammy Krane and like Iyanya, not giving up might be key to his long awaited success
VIDEO: Kayswitch – Jaburata

Kayswitch

Kayswitch is now out of excuses for failing his long list of fans year after year.
Kayswitch, who is D’Banj’s younger brother is now the worst-doing artiste among the now defunct Mo’Hits crew.
He recently dropped a new tune Jaburata, but the biggest news from Kayswitch in the past year is that time his baby mama wanted to break down D’Banj’s gate while looking for him
Emma Nyra

Emma Nyra

Emma Nyra has now failed to release any song since she famously left Made Men Music Group after her romantic relationship with label boss Ubi Franklin hit the rock which means she is a complete waste of resources while at the label.
Emma released not one, not two high budget music video when at Made Men Music but has since left. We are not only disappointed but surprised at her lack of hunger.
Ubi Franklin described how he pleaded with her mother to let her return to Nigeria to do music but now it looks like the motivation to sing has gone after her turbulent relationship with him ended
9ice

9ice

9ice unlike others failed on two fronts this year. Such a disappointment.
The veteran planned to take the industry by storm and he started out by releasing stale music videos then later on announced an album, none of the two proved success.
9ice also had political ambition, he wanted to be a part of Osun states Representatives at the NASS, he couldn’t even win at the primaries.
Where's Eva Alordiah By Brymoor (2)

Eva Alordiah

Whoever is advising Eva Alordiah needs to stop!
Eva had a promising 2013 and 2014 and it looks like that got to her head then she started acting like she is a megastar, in the mold of say… Beyonce, Adele or Taylor Swift.
Eva promised her 1960 album in January 2015 and this is December now, she hasn’t released anything instead she has been busy teasing her album on various social media platforms, fair to say nobody is looking forward to her album anymore.
Eva was once seen as the last hope of Nigerian rap music, female perspective, but now nobody really cares.
