Three Players Chelsea can Sign in January
Raphael Varane: Mourinho’s admiration for the young French defender is no secret. The Special One had labeled Varane as the best young centre-back during his time at Real Madrid. The 21-year-old, however, is second choice behind Pepe under Carlo Ancelotti at the Spanish capital and is reportedly unhappy over the lack of game time on the pitch. Several media outlets have hinted that Varane is available for €19m in January. With John Terry about to call time on his decorated club career, a move for Varane would be ideal in January despite the Blues having a young Kurt Zouma in their squad.
Varane is an immense presence at the back, is genuinely good at one-on-ones and has a cool head on young shoulders. Moreover, he can also come good from set pieces using his height to great advantage and suits Mourinho’s style at playing a deep defensive line whenever required. Varane would also jump at the chance to play in the Premier League and would also be excited to be reunited with his former manager at Stamford Bridge.
Mattia Destro: Chelsea would love to sign another striker in the upcoming January transfer window. Didier Drogba is set to retire after the end of the season and Loic Remy and Diego Costa’s niggling injuries mean that another top quality striker would come in handy for the second half of the season. One such player who would be a seamless fit into the Blues’ starting eleven would be Roma’s Mattia Destro.
The Italian has grown frustrated over the lack of opportunities at the Giallorossi as manager Rudi Garcia has persisted with club captain Francesco Totti. Destro, though, is an incredible finisher, a lethal number nine who could take the Premier League by storm. The 23-year-old, however, is also a transfer target for Arsenal and could be available for €20m in January. The only question is, will Chelsea give heed to their interest in the player from the summer?
Marco Reus: There is no doubt that Marco Reus is the hottest transfer target for top European clubs currently. The German’s incredible work ethic and unbelievable goal scoring abilities have earned envious glances all over Europe and the 25-year-old could leave Borussia Dortmund in the coming future. Jurgen Klopp’s side, however, don’t want to lose their prized asset to Bayern Munich and thus might look to sell him overseas.
There were reports that the player is interested to move to Barcelona while Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on his availability. It is also believed that Chelsea are, however, keen to sign him in January by offering him a whopping wage packet of €10 million per year. Reus is also available for €25m thanks to his release clause that will be activated next summer, but Chelsea would look to pay a bit more and acquire his signature in January. What a coup that would be!
